If you’re an avid beauty magazine reader, then you’ve most likely stumbled upon beauty trends that just don’t seem practical to wear out in the real world. (I’m looking at you, graphic eye liner.) Now, I’m not entirely knocking out-of-the-box beauty trends, but some are just better than others and look chic rather than sloppy or weird. One of those beauty trends is the glossy eyelid.
A runway-look favorite, glossy lids have been flaunted by both Beyonce and Kim Kardashian on several occasions. Glossy lids bring attention to the eyes in a way that’s different from other eye makeup looks. There’s something about a glossy lid that immediately gives off a fresh, youthful appearance. It also looks effortless in a way that can’t be compared with other eye shadow trends where a lack of blending can ruin the look or make you look like a hot mess.
There isn’t one way to wear a glossy lid and that’s another reason why we particularly love this trend for fall. It can be worn alone with fresh, clean skin, paired up with a glossy lip, paired monochromatically with a lip color in the same shade or worn with a bold lip. To celebrate fall, we created our own glossy look and decided to pair it with a dark, frosted lip for a slight ethereal take on this beauty trend. Dark lips are everywhere right now and no one should shy away from this trend because it literally looks good on everyone! If you don’t believe me, The Zoe Report wrote a whole beauty article on it a few weeks ago and we know Rachel Zoe doesn’t steer us in the wrong direction when it comes to beauty trends.
For our glossy lid, we used jane iredale’s Eye Shere Liquid Eye Shadow in Brown Silk since its creamy, crease-resistant formula will help keep the makeup from moving around too much. Next, you’ll want to gently tap a clear lip gloss over the lid to give it that glossy finish. We suggest having these two products on hand in case you experience any movement and separation. If you notice, we kept the brows natural and skipped out on any eye liner.
Next, we combined Laura Gellar’s Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminator in Gilded Honey with jane iredale’s Copper Wind blush to give our model a little more color with a bronzed glow. To highlight, we lightly dusted Artist Couture’s Illuminati above the cheekbones, bridge of nose and cupid’s bow.
To complete our look, we combined Smashbox’s Always On Liquid Lipstick in Miss Conduct and Girl Gang. Blending the two created a rich, plum lip color that’s perfect for the fall season. To give our lip a frosted finish, we swept a tiny bit of Laura Geller’s Gilded Honey and blended it into the lip color. How beautiful are the final results of our glossy lid and dark frosted lip? Is this a look you'll want to try this fall?
