Sugar Skull Makeup You Can Recreate in 30 Minutes or Less!

Sugar skull makeup is super popular for Halloween and it seems like just about every makeup artist on Instagram is creating their own spin on it. If you’re anything like me, then you’ve undoubtedly spent countless hours on YouTube watching Halloween makeup transformations, wishing you could master the same level of skill and artistry. Unless you have zero life commitments and nothing but time, practicing your Halloween makeup skills isn’t going to be on your list of major priorities. (You’re probably still trying to master that winged liner, right?)

If you really don’t want to spend money on makeup you’re only going to use for one day or stress out over recreating a look that’s way out of your comfort zone, you can still create a Halloween look that looks fantastic and requires products you may already have in your makeup bag. We teamed up with one of our talented makeup artists to bring you looks that are easy to do and won’t take hours to perfect.

Smokey Lips Are The New Smokey Eye This Season

The smokey eye has always been a go-to classic beauty trend, especially during the fall and winter months. As the weather changes and cools, we look to those sultry, smokey eyes to warm us up. This season, we’re seeing a new trend that showed up on the fall 2016 runways: smoky lips! Taking the same concept for the smokey eye, this trend warms up and transforms any lip color of your choice by simply blending a darker grey or black lipstick over it. This trend is so easy, we just had to jump on board!

We thought we’d have a little fun creating our own smokey lips using three Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick shades that are already great for the fall season when worn alone: Coffee Run (A rich brown), Screen Queen (A burgundy wine) and Punked (Deep Grey Matte).

The first smokey lip we created was combining Coffee Run with Punked. We first applied Coffee Run on its own. Then, using a lip brush, we blended in a little bit of Punked for a smokey finish. The color, once blended, became sephia-toned in its appearance. Notice how the notes of grey made the lip color much more interesting and a little edgy.

Monochromatic Makeup Is One the Easiest Trends You Can Recreate

Sometimes, keeping up with the latest hot beauty trend can be a little silly. In a time where literally any video or photo has the potential to become viral, some beauty trends can really pick up steam online. From contouring with eating utensils to matching makeup looks to snack foods, there’s no telling what’s going to gain popularity on social media. Luckily, not all beauty trends are wacky and some are actually really easy to recreate and can be worn on a daily basis.

One of my favorite beauty trends of the moment is monochromatic makeup. If you’re unfamiliar with the monochromatic makeup trend, it basically consists of keeping the majority (if not all) of your eye, cheek and lip makeup within the same color scheme. Sounds pretty easy, right? Well, it really is! I particularly love this trend during the fall and winter months because it allows you to create some warmer makeup looks that really pop. It also doesn't require any special technique or practice. All you need to do is find your personal favorite colors and have fun creating your own monochromatic looks! This is also an ideal trend for anyone who's looking to use their favorite beauty products in multiple ways (e.g., lipstick as blush, blush as eye shadow, etc).

Nude Makeup Is The Hottest Red Carpet Trend Right Now

The MTV Video Music Awards were this past Sunday and it's official---Nudes are IN! (Nude makeup, that is!) This Sunday, the Red Carpet was flooded with bold outfit choices and sultry, nude makeup that focused on the eyes and lips. Where daring choices are normally applauded at the VMAs, this week proved that nude makeup can make a smoldering statement when it comes to beauty. We narrowed down our favorite looks from the 2016 VMAs and picked our favorite beauty products to recreate the gorgeousness from home.

We loved everything about Hailey Baldwin's look at the VMAs. Her smokey bronzed eye and textured messy lob paired perfectly with her see-through jumpsuit. To create her tousled tresses, we love Matrix's Mess Maker from their Style Link Series. This lightweight sea salt spray gives the right amount of hold and texture without making the hair look dirty or matted. To copy her bronzed smokey eye, our go to product is Smashbox's versatile eyeshadow trio in Screenshot. Complete her look with the new Gen Nude Lipstick from bareMinerals in XOX. This dusty rose shade will give you a medium wash of color, while leaving your lips moisturized and ready to conquer the day.

Beach Waves Made Easy with the Beachwaver Pro!

When it comes to summer hair, beach waves are always the go-to style of the season. Textured and tousled tresses that make you look like you just spent a day by the ocean never goes out of style. As a matter of fact, it's a hair style we love seeing year round because of how carefree and pretty it is. Sarah Potempa's Beachwaver Pro makes our beloved summer hair style so much easier to recreate no matter what season it is. If you've struggled trying to master beach waves with traditional curling irons or wands without much success, then it might be time to try our go-to styling tool of the summer.

What you'll need:

  • Sarah Potempa's Beachwaver Pro
  • Your favorite shine pomade (We love Brazilian Blowout's Sculpt and Define Polish for this particular style)

There are many reasons to love the Beachwaver Pro. For one, it kind of does the work for you by rotating your hair into a perfect curl every time. Left and right rotations allow you to curl your hair with ease. All you do is clamp your hair into place and push the "go" button to start the rotation. (Of course, you'll want to work away from your beautiful face.) The ergonomic handle makes it easy to hold, regardless of what side you're working on. The ceramic rod infuses your hair with shine and protects it against damage for healthy-looking, beautiful curls.

Glow Like a Goddess With Our Summer Favorites

Getting a beautiful bronzed glow for the summer doesn’t mean you have to compromise your skin and spend hours under the sun. As a matter of fact, you don’t need to spend any time under the sun at all! If you’re looking to bronze up this summer without a burn, then you’ll need some of our favorite products to get that golden goddess look.

The first step to getting a bronzed look is creating a smooth base. We used Smashbox’s Studio Skin Foundation to create our summer makeup look. This buildable foundation not only covers imperfections, but also hydrates the skin for a natural-looking, demi-matte finish.  To conceal the under eye area and other problem areas, we chose bareMinerals’ bareSkin concealer for its silky smooth finish. High-definition mineral optics in the formula work to smooth out imperfections and create a brightened, luminous appearance. Achieving the ultimate golden glow requires some contouring to enhance the facial features and warm up the face naturally. For our look, we used Smashbox’s Contour Kit in Deep. To highlight, we went the warmer route and chose Laura Geller’s Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminator in Gilded Honey. This sheer powder is caramel honey colored and infuses the skin with that warm, summer-like glow.

Beat the Heat With a Braided Style for Summer

When the weather starts to heat up in the summer, the last thing you want is the feeling of your hair against the back of your already-too-warm neck. One easy solution to beating a heat wave is by simply tossing your hair up in a bun or ponytail. However, if you want to really step up your summer style, nothing amps up your look more than a cute braided hairdo! A braided hairstyle can transform any look you’re going for, whether it’s for a casual or special occasion. We sought the expertise of one of our own Planet Beauty Hairstylists to show us one casual braid and one dressier braid you can flaunt this summer season!

What you’ll need:

  • Texturizing spray

  • Smoothing cream

  • Bobby pins

  • Small hair ties

  • Teaser comb

  • Barber comb

Get Your Glow On All Summer Long

As summer nears and the weather starts to warm up, it’s common to want to let your skin breathe as much as possible. The thought of layers and layers of makeup can feel a little claustrophobic when you’re in the midst of a heatwave. Just because it’s summer doesn’t mean you have to completely forgo wearing makeup. One of the the quickest and easiest ways to brighten up your complexion and look summer fabulous is by applying a highlighter. A highlighter not only gives your face an instant lift but showers you with a glow that makes you look like a glammed-up goddess.

To achieve a natural highlighted effect, you’ll want to place your focus on the bridge of your nose, above your cheekbones, your brow bones, cupid’s bow and the center of your forehead. While there are a variety of makeup brushes you can use to apply highlighter, one tried and true beauty tool is the fan brush. Because of its half-moon shape, it makes applying highlighter easier. The smaller and thinner the bristles are, the easier it is to build your highlighter naturally. This is especially important when you are working with highlighters that have high shimmer or tiny specks of glitter.

Kiss Me Now, Kiss Me Later!

When you’re a busy woman on the go, chances are, you’ve got a full calendar on your hands. Between juggling your job, family life and social life, there’s probably little time to update and freshen up your look from location to location. Sure, you could run home and re-do your makeup if you’re going from work to a first date, but that’s just extra time you can’t be bothered with. One of the quickest ways to transform your makeup look from day to night is by simply changing up your lipstick. One of the best things about wearing lipstick is that it can make such a strong statement with little effort. On days when you’re not feeling your best, lipstick always has a way of making you look put together.

For a fresh-looking daytime look, a soft pink pout is the way to go. Smashbox's Cognac lipstick instantly enhances the natural color of the lip while adding a beautiful glossy finish. Notice how minimizing the amount of eyeshadow draws attention to Vanessa's gorgeous smile! This particular shade of lipstick. Cognac is also a great shade for an everyday professional look or that first date you've been looking forward to.
