Keep Active Teens Happy Year-Round

School is back in full swing and for many teens, that means it's time for fall sports activities. One of the advantages I have from working in the store is that I get to talk with moms one on one and many of them voice concerns over what their teens should be using. If you have an active teenager at home and are looking for ways to get them through the school year with minimal breakouts and hair concerns, check out some of my top picks for them to try.

If your teen is prone to breakouts, Dermalogica's Clear Start line has eight products available to help minimize teen acne. The Foaming Wash is clear must-have for both day and night use. Made with Salicylic Acid, this foaming cleanser helps clean pores, and remove debris on the skin that can cause breakouts. Help your teen calm their skin with eight powerful botanicals which include Tea Tree, Lavender and Camellia Sinensis. Another great benefit from this cleanser is that it can be used on the back and shoulders, as well. If the problem is a little more serious, incorporate the All Over Toner to treat breakouts on the body.

Teens spend a great amount of time outdoors, and if they're athletes, they spend twice as much time outside. Protect their skin and help them control shine with Dermalogica's Clear Start Oil Clearing Matte Moisturizer SPF 15. This ultra-light moisturizer contains special botanicals that act as micro sponges, absorbing oil and eliminating shine. SPF helps protect their skin against damaging rays that can aggravate skin and cause breakouts.

Skincare Favorites You'll Want This National Lazy Day

It’s National Lazy Day and to celebrate, we’re sharing four of our favorite lazy girl skincare products! If you’re looking to spend less time fussing with your routine and more time in your pajamas, then it might be time to try something new.

A skincare mask can offer an array of benefits, but let’s face it--- lazy girls don’t want to spend much time by the sink. If this sounds like you, then you might want to consider taking part in one of the biggest skincare trends on Instagram right now: sheet masking. They won’t cleanse or exfoliate like the many traditional masks we’re used to seeing, but sheet masks give your skin much-needed nutrients. Since it’s summer, our go-to of the moment is Talika’s BioEnzyme After Sun Sheet Mask. This soothing mask contains Hyaluronic Acid and Collagen, which plumps and re-hydrates sun-parched, dehydrated skin. Water-harnessing sugar stimulates the regeneration of the skin’s barrier in a natural way, while offering additional hydration. Chamomile, Arnica, Gentian and Milfoil extracts offer antioxidant protection and soothing comfort. After cleansing, simply press the mask onto the contours of your face to set it. Watch an episode of your favorite show or take a nap while it goes to work. After 15-30 minutes, peel it off, press the excess residue into your skin and you’re all set!

Say Goodbye to Breakout-Causing Habits

Dealing with constant breakouts is never fun and can really put a damper on your daily mood. If you have naturally oily skin, the battle with breakouts can seem never-ending. If you’re always feeling like your skin can’t catch a break, you may be unknowingly practicing some breakout-causing habits. Before you panic over your next breakout, see if you’re guilty of these daily habits.

Rushing your nightly routine: After a long day, it’s so tempting to just hit the hay without taking your makeup off. However, it’s just not a good idea for anyone. Relying on solely makeup wipes or only cleansing once is a surefire to welcome bacteria on your skin. Even if you don’t wear makeup, you should thoroughly cleanse and hydrate your face at night. Take your time cleansing your skin and if you have acne-prone skin, be gentle. Rubbing harshly can also cause irritation and spread bacteria.

Keeping dirty makeup brushes: You would never grab dirt off the ground and pat your face with it, so don’t let your makeup brushes go unwashed. Cleaning them regularly will help keep your skin free from unnecessary bacteria that can cause breakouts.

The Season's Changed and so should your Skincare Routine

If you've noticed a change in your skin the last couple of weeks, you're not alone. The weather is slowly warming up with the changing season and that means it's time to re-evaluate your skincare products. Are you ready to spring clean your skincare routine? Follow these tips to keep your skin looking healthy.

1. Keep your skin hydrated and happy: When it's cold out, we tend to crank up the heat, causing our skin to feel dry and thirsty. Replenish the moisture you've lost during winter by hydrating your skin in spring. If it's feeling extra dry, pick up a treatment like Hyalo Plasma from Perricone MD. Three forms of Hyaluronic Acid will keep your skin soft, healthy and protected from dryness.

2. Load up on SPF: It's easy to become overzealous about spending time outdoors when the weather is a perfect 70 degrees outside, but don't forget your SPF. If you'e forgetful with your sunscreen, look for moisturizers, lotions and makeup that already has a built in SPF. Don't neglect your precious pout, either. Keep a tube of Sun Bum lip balm handy to keep your lips soft and protected.

Nighttime Skin Care Rituals to Follow For Better Skin

Achieving healthy-looking skin is is a full-time job and what you do at night can really make a difference in how your skin looks and feels. If one of your beauty resolutions is to take better care of your skin, then follow our nighttime rituals for beautiful and healthy skin.

1. Remove your makeup thoroughly: Going to bed without taking your makeup off is a big no-no, so if you want to maintain healthy skin, be disciplined with this important skincare step. Make sure you thoroughly remove your makeup, too. Leaving traces behind can clog your pores and cause unwanted breakouts. Dermalogica's Precleanse will quickly dissolve your makeup and prep your skin for cleansing. Olive, Kukui and Apricot oils breakdown your face and eye makeup, leaving your skin refreshed and ready for the second cleanse.

2. Boost cleansing with a skincare tool: Make your cleansing ritual more effective by giving your hands a break and letting a skincare device do the work. Both Clarisonic and Foreo LUNA offer your skin amazing cleansing benefits that will leave your skin glowing after each use.

3. Leave blemishes and pimples alone: When it comes to picking, the struggle is real. Experiencing a breakout is never fun, but you should always practice restraint when it comes to touching and poking at your face. Attempting to pop a pimple will only spread the bacteria and potentially leave a scar after. Kate Somerville's EradiKate Acne Treatment is great to use when skin starts flaring up. Formulated with Sulphur and Alpha Hydroxy Acids, this treatment will help keep your skin clear and free from imperfections.
