Keeping your hair free from damage is a full-time job. In the summer, it's a constant battle against the sun, pool and chemical processing. Getting our hair to stay healthy becomes even more challenging in the fall and winter with the cooler weather, as well. Taking warm showers, styling with heat and coloring your hair can contribute to dry, frizzy strands. There's no need to panic, though. Making some simple changes during this time of the year can help keep your hair looking beautiful and shiny.
1. Finish your shower with a cool rinse: It's very easy to damage your hair with hot showers during the winter. Those relaxing hot showers can quickly dry out your strands if you don't exercise some caution. When it comes to your hair, try to avoid rinsing it all the way through with hotter water. While this may be a huge challenge during the winter months, it will really help your hair. Finishing with a slightly cooler rinse will help maintain its moisture and shine. If you have wavy or curly hair, doing this will also help eliminate some frizz.
2. Let your hair air-dry as long as possible: The less time you spend blow drying your hair with heat, the healthier your hair will be in the long run. Using a good microfiber towel (Aquis hair towel, anyone?) can really help this process along. Even if you cut five extra minutes from your hair drying routine, you'll notice a difference in your hair.
