When it comes to getting our done, nothing makes us feel more confident than the first steps we take when we walk out of the salon with an amazing new style. That confidence is soon met with frustration when we attempt to recreate the magic in the days that follow. While you may have all the right tools (professional-quality styling tools, round brushes and styling product) your results may depend on one important little hairstyling trick: cocktails.
I'm not referring to a tasty cosmopolitan (by all means, DO enjoy one). I'm referring to hair product cocktails. When I observe our own stylist Sherry working on a client, there isn't one magical product she uses every time. Like a careful mixologist, I watch her add a spritz here and a dollop there of different styling products to create a perfect, individualized style for her clients. While styling products have evolved greatly over time, there really isn't one product that will give you that satisfactory style you're seeking. With just a little cocktail of styling products, you're style will be elevated to another level of greatness. If you're looking for some great cocktails to try this coming year, check out some of our stylist's favorites.
Sleek Tresses: Styling Cream and oil
This wonderful duo will help tame flyways, give you light control and leave your hair incredibly shiny and sleek. We love the combo of Alterna's Bamboo Silk Sleek Brilliance Cream paired up with a little Ava Oil. Work this duo from the ends up.
Volume and Body: Light Leave In Conditioner and Volume Spray
This pair will give your volume with movement for a natural style that makes your hair look full and soft, at the same time. Schwarzkopf's Moisture Kick Spray Conditioner coupled with Pureology's Instant Levitation Mist will give you that bounce you love.
2nd Day Tousled Hair: Dry Shampoo and Working Hairspray
Using dry shampoo will help refresh and give you some volume and texture, but a hairspray will keep your style in place and give your hair that little extra hold it needs to stay put. Rene Furterer's Naturia Dry Shampoo and Alterna's Caviar Working Hair Spray will give your 2nd day style a fresh and tousled look.
Waves: Beach Spray and Styling Curl Cream
To get pretty and tousled beach waves, mix some beach spray and cream to get the right amount of hold and texture. We love Lanza's Beach Spray paired up with MoroccanOil's Curl Defining Cream for a beachy style you'll love.
Defined Curls: Curl Cream and Serum
To help keep curls defined and frizz-free, use a curl cream with a serum. ColorProof's True Curl Perfecting Serum compliments Colure's Shine Serum Plus for healthy-looking shiny curls that won't look frizzy.
Texture: Styling Wax and Hairspray
For texture that stays all day long, distribute a fair amount of styling wax throughout your hair and give it the hold it needs by finishing your style with a hairspray. Brazilian Blowout's Acai Flexible Molding Clay Wax is great for both short and long hair. Pair it up with Sexy's Spray and Stay for a buildable hold.
Blow-outs: Thermal Protection Lotion and Serum
To recreate the perfect salon blowout, you'll want thermal protection and shine. A winning combo for a beautiful blowout is mixing Tigi's Bed Head Superstar Thermal Blowdry Lotion with Alfaparf Milano's Semi Di Lino Diamond Instant Illuminating Liquid. Together, you'll that salon-quality bounce and shine you love.
